Dr David Tilbrook
Chartered Clinical Psychologist
Accredited Intensive Short Term Dynamic Psychotherapist – Psychologist
I am a Chartered Clinical Psychologist Specialising in Psychotherapy with Senior Practitioner Status, working in private practice with clients in and around Brackley, England, as well as online as needed. I have worked as a Principal Clinical Psychologist in NHS Psychological Therapy services for over 20 years and in Private Practice for 8 years.
I am married and father of three children. I live in rural Buckinghamshire. In my leisure time I enjoy movies, classical music and I play bass guitar in a band. I try to attend to both elements of the saying, “the unexamined life is not worth living and the unlived life is not worth examining”! I have undertaken psychotherapy several times, including currently, and find it invaluable for supporting myself in my life and being the most effective therapist I can be for my clients.
As your therapist, it is my priority to create a safe, secure and therapeutic atmosphere that promotes healing, growth and positive change, for you. I look forward to working with you to addresses your challenges and realize your goals. Therapy is a process that can move you toward being the healthiest version of yourself and living the life you desire.
Treatment Approach
As a Chartered Clinical Psychologist I have trained in a range of psychological theories, models and techniques, including Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP), Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy (DIT), Mentalisation Based Therapy (MBT), Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Group Analysis.
My preferred way of working in psychotherapy is Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy. I have found that the clear, collaborative and experiential elements combine to support my clients to more fully address the complex emotional factors underlying symptoms such as anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, compulsive behaviours, to name a few.
ISTDP supports clients to work at their highest level in therapy to more rapidly and deeply resolve the causes of their difficulties, bringing relief from debilitating symptoms, bringing acceptance and compassion to feelings of anxiety and shame, and the opportunity to regain, or perhaps develop for the first time, a real and coherent sense of themselves in life.
