Working online is proving an effective way of engaging in psychotherapy. Whilst undoubtedly there are some differences due to not sharing the same physical space, for the most part it is possible to establish a good connection in the therapy relationship and to pay careful attention to the feelings and other responses that arise as we work together. With this in mind, it is very important that, if at all possible, you use a tablet or laptop / PC rather than a phone. Also, it is important that you can arrange your device in such a way that you can relax and settle. Having a quiet and private space is a necessary condition for safe, comfortable and effective work in psychotherapy. Whilst working online does give greater flexibility and convenience in some ways, we do need to pay careful attention to any potential downsides which could limit how much you can benefit from the work.
Currently, due to the covid situation all of my work is online on the Zoom platform. I am anticipating returning to ‘in-person’ work around March – April 2022 pending advice / requirements from the government and my professional insurance. Once ‘in-person’ work restarts this will incorporate social distancing, ventilation and sanitising of the therapy offices as per government advice.
